The edge is built, not rented.

Most private capital firms we speak with ask us the same thing about AI: where the edge will come from, and who gets to keep it. We are Sharelock, a Swiss AI-native studio in Lausanne. We build AI-native tech assets for the firms that invest private capital. A firm wins on what its competitors don't have: its deal flow, its read on a sector, the way it runs its portfolio. AI now runs through all of it, so who owns that AI matters. This thesis came out of that question. Every firm can now rent the same models, the same computing power and the same tools, so access alone gives no one an edge. The edge has to come from what a firm builds on top and keeps for itself. Here is where we stand.

1. Renting buys parity, not an edge.

Any AI model or tool you can rent, your competitors can rent the next morning. We rent too, for what is common. Your edge is not common: it is built on your own data, workflows and judgment, and owned by your firm.

2. Own assets, not hours or rented tools.

Hours are spent. A report nothing builds on is read once. A software subscription is paid again every year. An AI-native tech asset is software with AI at its core, built on a firm's own data, inside its tools, and owned by the firm. We build each one so it does not depend on us.

3. An asset compounds only for its owner.

Compounding needs increments that stand alone and an owner who keeps the gains. Each piece we ship gives the next one more to build on. What we build for you is yours. Nothing is licensed back. Compounding on rented ground pays the landlord.

4. Useful beats impressive.

We hold AI to one test: whether your investment team relies on it in diligence, portfolio monitoring and reporting. A demo does not count. Discretion is part of our job: an edge that is shown is an edge that is copied.

5. Underwrite AI work like an investment.

No investment committee approves an uncapped commitment with no exit. An AI project should not ask for one. We work the way you invest: defined entry, defined scope, an asset at exit. You can stop at the end of any phase and keep what we delivered.

6. We believe every firm will run its own custom harness: multi-model, configurable and modular.

A harness is the software that puts AI agents to work in your tools, on your data and within your rules, and tests them. It is where your way of investing becomes software. Multi-model, because the AI model is a component, not the strategy. Configurable, because no two firms decide the same way. Modular, because each piece can be added or replaced on its own. Vendor AI models will come and go. The harness is what your firm keeps, and where your edge lives.

This is the work we chose: building the part of your firm's AI that should never be rented.
